The TORLYS Story

Fernando Luz and Anibal Claudino founded TORLYS in 1988 with the mission to provide better flooring solutions. The company’s name, TORLYS, derives from Toronto (TOR), where the company was founded, and Lisbon (LYS) because the two founders are Portuguese. In 1991, current President, Peter Barretto, joined the company, and TORLYS changed its focus from being a broad-based regional building materials and flooring supplier to becoming an international flooring distribution specialist.

Since then, it has grown into one of the fastest-growing flooring companies in Canada, known for its innovative, one-of-a-kind products and its specialization in beautiful, easy to maintain, smart and green flooring.
